On Sunday, June 25, 2023, officers from the East Precinct responded to a crash near the intersection of Northeast Glisan Street and Northeast 147th Avenue involving five vehicles. The crash was a result of a suspect who was attempting to elude Gresham Police. Unfortunately, a woman died in the crash.

The incident began on June 25th at 6:11 p.m., when a Gresham Police officer was in the area of Northeast 181st Avenue and Northeast Pacific Street when the officer saw a car that matched the description of one involved in a string of armed robberies. The officer attempted to get behind the suspect car at Northeast 181st Avenue and Northeast Glisan Street, but the car took off at a high rate of speed before the officer could try to pull it over.

The suspect was traveling west on Northeast Glisan Street when he rear-ended two cars, one unoccupied parked car and another car that was occupied by two people. A woman in that car died and the other occupant was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The suspect’s car then veered into the eastbound lane and hit two additional occupied cars. Two occupants from one of those eastbound cars went on their own to an area hospital to be evaluated. The driver of the fourth car did not suffer any apparent injuries and stayed at the scene. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Gresham Police Department.

The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team has responded to the scene to investigate. During the investigation Northeast Glisan Street will be closed from Northeast 145th Avenue to Northeast 148th Avenue.
