Tina Kotek, Speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives, has announced that she is running for Governor. Kotek is seeking to replace Governor Kate Brown who cannot run again in 2022 due to term limits.Â
Kotek has led the house since 2013, and has been a state representative for 14 years. Kotek will likely face a crowded democratic field. State Treasurer Tobias Read and State Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum, both democrats, are also considering a run for Governor.
Nicholas Kristof, a democrat and a New York Times columnist who owns property in Oregon, said he is close to making a decision on running for Governor too. However, it is unclear if Kristof will be eligible to run for office in Oregon since he voted in New York during the 2020 election cycle, and only recently registered to vote in Oregon.
Governor Kate Brown has not yet endorsed any candidates.
Republican candidates for Governor include Stan Pulliam, Bridget Barton, Jessica Gomez and Bud Pierce.
