A suspect has been indicted for multiple counts of murder related to a triple homicide in March of 2023 in the Portsmouth Neighborhood.

Since the shooting, Homicide Unit detectives developed information about a suspect, Omar Mohammed Osman, now 18 years old. Osman was in custody on unrelated charges at the MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Marion County. On March 10, 2024, the case against Osman was presented to a Grand Jury by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office. Osman was indicted on the following charges:

-Murder in the First Degree (6 counts)
-Murder in the Second Degree (4 counts)
-Unlawful Use of a Weapon (7 counts)
-Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2 counts)
-Recklessly Endangering Another Person (7 counts)
-Animal Abuse in the First Degree

This arrest is not the end of the case, and additional investigative steps are being taken. Additional information will be released when appropriate.

“This broad daylight murder in a residential neighborhood not only was tragic because of the loss of three young lives, but it deeply rocked our whole community,” said Chief Bob Day. “This indictment is the culmination of over a year of meticulous and challenging investigative work. I extend my sincere appreciation to the Homicide Unit Detectives who have taken the lead on this case from the beginning, as well as the work of the Forensic Evidence Division, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, and others who have been involved in this case. I’m also grateful for members of the community who shared information with police and waited patiently for this significant milestone on the path to justice. It’s my hope that this indictment represents a first step toward healing for the hurting families of the victims, and our entire community.”
