On Friday, July 14th, 2023 at 7:29p.m., East Precinct officers responded to a shots fired call in the 2700 block of Southeast 115th Avenue. Officers arrived and found evidence of gunfire. The investigation determined that two cars were driving southbound on Southeast 115th Avenue, an occupant of the trail vehicle shooting at the occupant of the lead vehicle. A short time later, dispatchers notified officers of a 911 call reporting one person shot at the 15200 block of Southeast Stark Street. Officers responded and found an adult male in his 60s with a gunshot wound. The victim, whose injuries are not considered life-threatening, reported that he was shot on Southeast 115th Avenue south of Southeast Division Street. This corresponded to the initial shots call. The victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Members of the Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) and Focused Intervention Team (FIT) were working and immediately responded to both locations and took over as the primary investigative unit. Additional detectives responded from their homes as well. Officers and Detectives identified a named suspect and developed information about his location near Northeast 159th Avenue and Northeast Sandy Boulevard. They went to that location and surrounded an apartment where he was believed to be staying. He was arrested at 10:21p.m, less than 3 hours after the initial call.
