On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, just after 10:00 p.m., Central Precinct officers were dispatched to the 3100 Block of Southeast Powell Boulevard on the report of a shooting. Upon arriving, officers located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. They were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim received treatment at the hospital, but later died.

A person of interest has been detained pending further investigation. The Focused Intervention Team (FIT) and Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) initially responded to investigate. Since the victim has now passed away, Portland’s Homicide Unit is assuming control of the investigation.

The name of the victim will be released after the Medical Examiner’s Office confirms their manner and cause of death, and after family members have been notified.

It is believed additional individuals may have witnessed the shooting who have not yet been interviewed by Law Enforcement. Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Ryan Foote at ryan.foote@police.portlandoregon.gov or (503)823-0781 or Detective Travis Law at travis.law@police.portlandoregon.gov or (503)823-0395 and reference case number 23-48585.
