On behalf of the Washington County Major Crimes Team, the Beaverton Police Department is issuing an official statement regarding an officer involved shooting that occurred in the 1400 block of SE Duke Drive in Hillsboro, Oregon on September 7, 2023, at approximately 3:17 PM.
Officers from the Hillsboro Police Department responded to 1445 SE Duke Drive to attempt to arrest Ryan Richard Herinckx (39) of Hillsboro for crimes that included Criminal Mischief, Stalking, Violation of a Court’s Stalking Protective Order, and Escape in the Third Degree.
At approximately 11:39 AM, Officers approached Herinckx in the driveway of the residence, told Herinckx that he was under arrest, and Herinckx retreated inside the residence. Officers attempted to negotiate with Herinckx, but he refused to exit the residence. Hillsboro Police Officers requested the assistance of the Washington County Tactical Negotiations Team (TNT) and the Washington County Crisis Negotiation Unit (CNU).
At 2:01 PM, Officers obtained a court issued search warrant authorizing them to search the residence and arrest Herinckx. CNU members continued to negotiate with Herinckx while TNT members attempted to serve the warrant. At approximately 3:17 PM, while TNT members were in the process of serving the warrant, Herinckx exited the house, armed with a handgun, and fired at officers. TNT members returned fire. Herinckx sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Lifesaving efforts were attempted on scene. Herinckx was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
No law enforcement officers were injured during this incident. As is standard procedure, members of law enforcement who were involved in this shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave.
