Portland Fire & Rescue Fire/Arson Investigators working in collaboration with private fire investigators and electrical engineers were able to safely enter the scene at the Roseway Theater fire on the morning of August 22nd.
This fire began in the early morning hours of August 6 and quickly grew to 3 alarms. Today’s operations included the use of a 160-ton crane and crew to remove overhead debris which was hazardous to interior operations. PF&R’s Arson Dog was on hand today as well to help investigators examine the scene for indicators of arson.Â
The collective approach allowed fire investigators to conclude earlier that the cause of the fire was electrical in nature. Further analysis may be required to identify the specific failures which led to this tragedy. Arson has been ruled out and this fire was accidental in nature. We have cleared the scene and it has been turned over to private fire investigators. This collaborative effort was accomplished with Portland Fire & Rescue, Oregon State Police, and many skilled private sector partners.
