On Saturday, January 21st at 5:17 p.m. Officers from the Focused Intervention Team (FIT) stopped a silver Honda sedan for a moving violation. The vehicle came to a stop and the passenger took off running. Officers maintained visual of the passenger who ran into traffic and jumped onto a passing Subaru and held on for two blocks before he jumped off and ran into the yards. The suspect was captured and was found to be in possession of a firearm. He was arrested with a firearm. The suspect in this case, 52-year-old John W. Peters, is a convicted felon and had outstanding warrants from both Multnomah County and Clark County, Washington. Case number 23-19859. Gun: Taurus G2C 9mm
On Wednesday, January 25th at 8:05 p.m. FIT Officers conducted a traffic stop on a Honda sedan that did not have license plates near Southeast 143rd Avenue and Southeast Stark Street. When officers contacted the occupants, they observed a firearm secreted in the middle between the front seats as well as small baggies that appeared to contain Fentanyl. All three suspects were taken into custody. Upon search of the vehicle, 250 grams of suspected powdered Fentanyl, 96 grams of suspected Fentanyl pills, a Glock 19 pistol and drug packaging material were located. All three suspects were charged with: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Loaded Firearm in Public, Distribution of a Controlled Substance Schedule 1, Trademark Counterfeiting in the First Degree. An adult male, 18-year-old Jose Martinez-Vanegas, was lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center. The two juveniles were lodged at the Donald E Long Juvenile Detention Center. On Saturday, January 28th, at approximately 8:43 p.m. FIT Officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Southeast 130th Ave and Southeast Bush Street for a moving violation. The driver of the vehicle had a suspended license. A Glock 42, .380 caliber handgun that was previously reported stolen was located on the driver’s floorboard. The driver, 22-year-old Luis Martinez-Ruiz, was arrested and charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Theft in the First Degree. The vehicle was towed. Case number 23-26369. Gun: Glock 42
On Tuesday, January 31st, at approximately 4:57 p.m. FIT officers conducted a traffic stop near Northeast 82nd Ave and NE Failing Street on a vehicle for not displaying license plates. The driver of the vehicle did not have a valid driver’s license or insurance and the vehicle was towed. During a search of the vehicle, a loaded Ruger 9mm handgun was located in the passenger compartment. The driver, 42-year-old Cory Wallace, was arrested for Felon in Possession of a Loaded Firearm. On Tuesday, February 7th, at approximately 5 p.m. FIT officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding near Northeast Lombard Street and Northeast 60th Avenue. A passenger in the vehicle was found to have a warrant for their arrest for Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle out of Clackamas County. After being arrested, a Glock handgun was discovered in the passenger’s belongings. The passenger, 20-year-old Xavier Harris, was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm. On Friday, February 10th at approximately 7:45 p.m., FIT officers conducted a traffic stop on a white Acura sedan for a moving violation and for issues with the vehicle’s license plates. When the officers contacted the two occupants, they observed a firearm with an extended magazine underneath the front passenger’s seat. The passenger was arrested, and it was discovered that the passenger had an outstanding warrant for Theft in the Second Degree for their arrest. The passenger, 38-year-old Andrea McGinty, was booked into jail for the Clackamas County Second Degree Theft warrant, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Loaded Firearm in Public.
