On Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 12:50 a.m., two officers from the East Precinct were driving west in their patrol car on Northeast Glisan Street and just west of Northeast 108th Avenue. The two officers were on their way to a call for service when the patrol car they were in was struck by another car.

On that part of Northeast Glisan Street, the road is reduced to one lane for westbound traffic and the other part of the road is for parking. The car that struck the patrol car was driving on the right, in that area designated for parking, attempting to pass the patrol car. After the crash, the officers went to check the welfare of the other people involved. Officers found the driver and passenger to be uninjured, but the driver appeared to be under the influence of intoxicants. The driver was taken into custody and transported to complete the DUII processing.

The 17 year-old driver’s blood alcohol content was 0.15%. The driver was issued citations for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, No Operator’s License, Driving Uninsured, Unsafe Passing on the Right, Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device, Failure to Drive within the Lane and Careless Driving contributing to an accident.

The officers were taken to a hospital for evaluation and later released.
