A space for making and creating is now open at Beaverton City Library. The new makerspace, referred to as DAM, is located at the main library (12375 SW 5th St) on the second floor, east of the computers.
DAM, which stands for Design And Make, is a space for community members of all ages to come to learn, practice skills, collaborate, prototype, and problem-solve where anyone can be a maker and develop a passion for creating.
There is no cost to use materials or equipment in the makerspace and a library card is not required.
Visitors can experiment with a wide variety of equipment and supplies for creating their next masterpiece solo or in collaboration with others. The makerspace contains maker technology, such as a 3D printer, a 3D scanner, Arduino kits, and Cricut machines.
Available in the space are five sewing machines and a variety of other fiber art equipment, from crochet and knitting needles to lap looms and embroidery supplies. Visitors will also find visual art supplies, jewelry-making equipment, button and sticker makers, stamping supplies, scrapbooking and collage materials, soldering stations, and other basic tool sets.
As an all-ages space, the library welcomes families to visit the DAM to create together. There are a variety of coding, robotics, and engineering toys to inspire the youngest makers in our community. The space contains assistive crafting equipment for visitors of all abilities to help the space be more accessible to all.
Open Lab hours are available throughout the week. During Open Lab hours, the space is open for anyone to drop in and use of any equipment available. A staff member is stationed in the space to answer questions and assist when needed.
The DAM was able to be constructed, furnished, and filled with equipment and supplies thanks in part to a generous donation by the New Friends of the Beaverton City Library.
For current Open Lab hours and information about any upcoming workshops or classes available, visit DAM or call 503-644-2197, option 2.
