On Friday, February 4, 2022, at 2:50 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of an attempted kidnapping near NW Meacham Road and NW Murtaugh Road in unincorporated North Plains. An area resident reported that her 11-year-old child was walking from a school bus stop near the intersection when a man pulled up and offered the child candy while encouraging him to get in the vehicle. The child did not get in the car and ran to safety.

The vehicle involved is believed to be a newer model bright blue BMW sedan, possibly an X6 model, with Oregon license plates. The driver is described a male with brown hair. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office provided a photo depicting the type of car that is believed to have been used:

Investigators believe the event may be related to a similar incident that happened in the City of Forest Grove on January 31, 2022.

Deputies will be providing extra patrols in residential areas before and after school. Anyone with information or who sees anything suspicious is encouraged to call 911 or non-emergency at (503) 629-0111.
