On Monday, July 24, 2023, at 5:15 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a vehicle in Commonwealth Lake. When deputies arrived, they observed a vehicle partially submerged in the lake.
The Sheriff’s Office Remotely Operated Vehicle Team (ROVT) responded with a drone alongside the Washington County Medical Examiner’s Office. Once the vehicle was removed, deputies found the person in the vehicle deceased.
The deceased has been identified as 56-year-old Mark Shelton of Beaverton, and his family has been notified.
Deputies determined that the vehicle drove into the lake at approximately 3:24 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be released when it becomes available.
