On Saturday, August 20, 2022, in the early morning hours, deputies responded to a report of gunfire at The Sunset Strip Gentlemen’s Club located at 10205 SW Park Way in Portland. Deputies learned a physical altercation occurred between 33-year-old Joshua Michael Best and an employee. When Best was asked to leave, he threatened to shoot them. The staff member involved in the altercation sustained minor injuries.
Once in the parking lot, Best got into a vehicle to leave. As he passed the club, Best fired a handgun, hitting the building and another patron’s car. No one was shot during the incident. One employee suffered superficial injuries from bullet shrapnel.
The altercation with employees and the shooting were captured on surveillance video from the club. Detectives used this footage to identify Best.
On September 6th Portland Police Bureau arrested Best during an unrelated traffic stop. Washington County Sheriff’s deputies transported Best to the Washington County Jail. On September 12, a grand jury indicted Best on the following crimes:
- Attempted murder in the second degree
- Unlawful use of a firearm (4 counts)
- Felon in possession of a weapon
- Assault in the fourth degree
