A woman is recovering from injuries after jumping from a moving car to escape a kidnapping, and the suspect was arrested on felony charges.
On Friday, May 31, 2024 at 1:39 a.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of a woman screaming and running from a man in the area of Southeast 112th Avenue and Southeast Lincoln Street. When they arrived they found the woman hiding in a driveway.
The victim, a 47-year-old woman, reported that the suspect, a stranger, pulled his car over near Southeast 146th Avenue and Southeast Division Street and offered her a ride home. When they arrived at Southeast 112th Avenue and Southeast Division Street, the victim opened her door to get out. The suspect then accelerated to a high speed, preventing her from leaving. The victim began physically fighting the man as the man drove and he punched her in the face. At Southeast 112th Avenue and Southeast Lincoln Street, the victim was able to jump out of the moving car to get away from the suspect. She was injured from the fall, but was able to run away. The victim was later treated at the scene for cuts and bruises.
The suspect fled the area. Investigating officers quickly distributed a description of the suspect’s vehicle to officers who were actively looking for him.
At 2:21a.m., an alert officer spotted the suspect in his vehicle and stopped him at Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Beech Street. The suspect was arrested. Portland Police Sex Crimes Unit Detectives responded to assist with the investigation.
Ra Fet, 25, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Kidnapping in the First Degree, Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, Coercion, Menacing, Assault in the Fourth Degree, Reckless Driving, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
