On Saturday, September 17, 2022, members of the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST), PPB detectives, the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT), the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), Air Support, the Focused Intervention Team (FIT), North Precinct, and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office served warrants at multiple locations and arrested a 17 year-old male, wanted in connection with a shooting investigation.
On September 8, 2022, at approximately 9:37 p.m., officers from the East Precinct responded to a shooting in the 3300 block of Southeast 82nd Avenue. When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to an area hospital and survived his injuries. ECST investigators were able to identify the juvenile and 24 year-old Charlie Hernandez as suspects in this incident.
An arrest warrant was issued for the juvenile and Hernandez. On September 16, Charlie Hernandez was taken into custody at his Parole Officer’s Office.
On Saturday, September 17, ECST investigators learned that the juvenile suspect was located in the 4600 block of North Fessenden Street. ECST and PPB detectives gathered resources to observe the suspect while SERT and CNT planned and executed a search warrant. The juvenile suspect was taken into custody without incident. Additionally, ECST and PPB detectives recovered items of evidence related to the shooting. Washington County Sheriff Deputies then assisted PPB with serving a search warrant at a home in the 7000 block of SW Canyon Drive, where additional items of evidence were recovered.
The juvenile suspect was booked into the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center on the charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
The efforts of all the units involved, as well as the interagency cooperation with our Washington County Sheriff’s Office partners, demonstrated the investigative skills and dedication of law enforcement to hold suspects accountable and prevent further gun violence.
