The Hillsboro School District, Oregon Air Show Charitable Foundation (OASCF), Oregon Air Show, Portland Community College, and Port of Portland recently announced a grand opening celebration for the Oregon Aerospace Careers for Everyone (O-ACE) program on Thursday, April 7, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hillsboro Airport.

O-ACE is a high school pathway program for students interested in careers as aviation maintenance technicians, avionics technicians, or professional pilots. The program began in the fall of 2020 and has a goal of increasing diversity within the industry by introducing nontraditional (female and/or non-white) candidates to the field. The course is taught by a bilingual, licensed female pilot – Sheri Fisher.

The O-ACE program is unique and was made possible by a two-year planning process and multiple partnerships. Money raised through the OASCF funded the renovation of the former KUIK radio station space at the Hillsboro Airport into a classroom. The work of transforming the space was done by members of the Hillsboro Rotary Club International and Oregon Air Show volunteers. Additional partnerships and connections will be explained and celebrated at the grand opening.
