Early this morning, at about 2:57 am, Hillsboro police officers were dispatched to the area of 1500 block of NE Ashberry Dr. Hillsboro on the report that a suspect had stolen a bag of cans from the victim’s porch. As officers were responding to the theft of cans, they received a call of a burglary in progress also in the 1500 block, of NE Ashberry Dr.

Officers immediately responded to the area and set up containment using K-9s from the Tigard Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

While on containment, officers attempted contact with a male who refused to stop and identify himself. This male was tased by officers and taken into custody. It was determined that this male was a transient and unrelated to the burglaries. This male was cited for interfering with a police officer and released.

While officers were still on containment, they received another call stating a male was in the victim’s house at the 1500blk of NE 65th Ave. Officers were then able to locate and arrest the burglary suspect, who was identified as 24-year-old Steven Michael Trout. Steven also goes by Stephanie Trout.

At the scene, officers learned that Mr. Trout was responsible for two burglaries of occupied homes, two attempted burglaries, and the theft of the bag of cans.

Mr. Trout was lodged at the Washington County Jail on charges of Burglary-I x2, Attempted Burglary-I, and Theft-III.

Mr. Trout also had three felony warrants for his arrest out of multiple agencies. The three warrants are Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office for a probation violation, Marion County Sheriff’s Office for unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and a warrant out of Washington State for burglary and theft.
