Yesterday, at 11:18 a.m., multiple callers to 911 reported flames and smoke coming from a condo unit at a complex off Britetree Circle in Aloha. Due to the description provided by callers and it being a fire at a multi-housing structure that was spreading to an adjacent unit, 911 dispatchers immediately upgraded the call to a second alarm to add additional resources. Firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and Hillsboro Fire & Rescue were dispatched to the scene along with Metro West Ambulance and Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
First-incoming crews arrived within minutes to the condo complex to find heavy flames and thick smoke billowing out of both floors of two condo units with extension into the attic. Crews began aggressive fire attack measures in order to prevent further spread to the other two adjacent units. One occupant in the unit jumped from the second-story window and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported by Metro West Ambulance to Emanuel Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Due to the significant, fast-moving fire throughout the unit and partial collapse of the roof, crews were not able to immediately perform a search of the structure to confirm all occupants evacuated. There was concern based on bystander comments that one occupant may have still been inside the structure on the second floor. But at this time, no one has been located.
Two of the units in the fourplex structure sustained significant damage. The two remaining units are also not inhabitable due to damaged utilities that service the building. Red Cross will be assisting approximately eight people who have been displaced with temporary housing and other essential needs.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
