A 16-year-old boy is in custody in connection with a shooting that occurred Monday, October 10th, at Columbia Park in Troutdale. Columbia Park is adjacent to Reynolds High School.

Multnomah County sheriff’s deputies took the teenager, who is a student at Reynolds High School, into custody on Wednesday, October 12. The teenager was transported to the Juvenile Justice Center, where he remains.

The arrest is a result of vigorous investigative work by Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office school resource deputies and detectives in collaboration with the Reynolds School District. The case was forwarded to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office to consider criminal charges.

When the shooting occurred, during lunch period on Monday, two school resource deputies were at the school. The school resource deputies rushed to the adjacent park with school security, in addition to the many law enforcement officers who also responded to the school.

Based on information that the suspects left in a direction away from the school, and in conjunction with the large police presence at the campus, the sheriff’s office determined the school grounds were safe. Additionally, since many students were outside during lunch at the time of the nearby shooting, school doors remained unlocked to allow students to seek safe shelter inside the school.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office continues to actively investigate the shooting and is working to identify any additional people who were involved. We are asking for anyone with information to leave a message with detectives at 503-988-0560. Callers can choose to remain anonymous. Neighbors who live near the school and have home security systems are urged to review video between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Monday.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office takes serious threats of violence at any local school. The safety of students and faculty is the highest priority.
