Due to high forecasted temperatures this week, the City of Beaverton will activate an after hours cooling center at Beaverton City Library main (12375 SW 5th Street) for anyone looking for a place to cool down.
The afterhours cooling center provides extended lobby hours after the library closes. As a reminder, cooling centers are available at both library locations (Main and Murray Scholls branch) during regular hours, as well as the City Park Fountain.
Cooling centers are available free of charge. Community members are invited to come and cool off, charge devices, use the WiFi and get a drink of water. Restrooms are available.
Beaverton City Library main is located at 12375 SW 5th Street near TriMet route numbers 52, 88 and the Beaverton Transit Center.
Beaverton City Library at Murray Scholls is located at 11200 SW Murray Scholls Place, Suite 102 near TriMet route numbers 62 and 92.
Community members can visit https://www.beavertonoregon.gov/706/Hot-Weather-Information for up-to-date details on available resources, transportation, tenant rights during heat events, and other tips for staying safe and cool during extreme temperatures.
People are also encouraged to stay hydrated, check in on their neighbors, avoid strenuous activity in heat of the day, and know the signs of heat exhaustion.
If someone outside is unsheltered and whose life appears to be in danger, call 9-1-1. Otherwise, if you see someone having a difficult time during warm weather, please call the police non-emergency number at 503-629-0111 and request a welfare check.
