The Beaverton City Council at the Oct. 18 City Council meeting reaffirmed their stance in support of victims of child abuse.
During the meeting, the following statement was read and adopted, which supports the City Council goals of good governance and safety:
“We, the Beaverton City Council, would like to address recent events concerning the former mayor. In March 2022, Denny Doyle was charged in federal court with one count of possession of child pornography. On Tuesday, October 11, he officially changed his original “not guilty” plea to “guilty” and the judge scheduled sentencing for January 24, 2023.
Your Council stands together with all children and those who find themselves exploited. As elected leaders, we take an oath to serve, protect and advocate for our children, families, and communities. We remain deeply troubled and concerned for those who have been exploited. As your elected servants, we stand together against all forms of exploitation, abuse, and harm.”
The Beaverton City Council is a seven-member body – with a mayor and six city councilors – as outlined in Beaverton’s new city charter adopted in 2021. As the city’s governing body, the City Council gives policy direction and helps guide the city’s long-term goals. The City Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month to direct policy decisions.
