[UPDATE] Suspect in assault turned homicide case is arrested

A man who was brutally assaulted last month in the area of Northwest 3rd Avenue and Northwest Glisan Street has died of his injuries.

A man, later identified as James Anthony Wise, was brutally assaulted on February 13, 2022, in the area of Northwest 3rd Avenue and Northwest Glisan Street. Wise ultimately died of his injuries.

On February 19, 2022, at around 2:33pm, members of the Homicide Detail, Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST), Central Precinct Neighborhood Response Team, and the PPB K-9 Unit located and arrested Williams in the area of Southeast 140th Avenue and Southeast Stark Street. 

Elijah Williams was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the Second Degree, and Assault in the Third Degree. 

On February 13, 2022, at 4:17 a.m., officers from the Central Precinct responded to an assault call in the area Northwest 3rd Avenue and Northwest Glisan Street. When officers arrived, they found James Anthony Wise, who had been assaulted and was unconscious. Wise was transported to the hospital with significant injuries, and later died from those injuries.
