On November 8, 2023, medical staff in the Washington County Jail were attending to an 82-year-old adult in custody (AIC) who subsequently went into cardiac arrest. Deputies and jail medical staff performed lifesaving efforts, and the Hillsboro Fire Department and American Medical Response (AMR) also responded to the incident.

The AIC was then transported to a local hospital but passed away shortly thereafter, with his family present.

The investigation into this incident is being led by the Washington County Major Crimes team, which is standard procedure for any AIC death.

Based on initial investigations, it appears that the AIC’s death was caused by natural causes.

Per the family’s request, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office did not disclose the name of the AIC in a recent press release. However, in accordance with Oregon public records laws, it will be made available upon request.
