The City of Beaverton is extending cooling center operations through at least Monday, Jul. 8 in response to the current extreme weather event with the possibility of additional extensions into Tuesday pending updated forecasts available after the weekend.

Beaverton City Library Main (12375 SW 5th Street) and Murray Scholls Branch (11200 SW Murray Scholls Place, Suite 102) are open to the public during normal hours for anyone looking to escape the heat.

In addition, an afterhours cooling center at Beaverton City Library Main, with extended lobby hours, will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jul. 5 through Monday, Jul. 8.

Cooling centers are available free of charge. Community members are invited to come and cool off, charge devices, use the WiFi, and get a drink of water. Restrooms are also available.

The Beaverton Temporary Shelter has also been activated as an inclement weather shelter part of the countywide shelter system and will open its doors to unhoused individuals seeking shelter.

No-turn away shelter services will be available as of Friday, Jul. 5 at noon and will remain open 24 hours throughout the severe weather event. Meals are provided for guests.

To access shelter beds, interested folks can walk up to the shelter located at 12350 SW 5th Street accessible via TriMet route numbers 52, 76, and 78.

The Beaverton City Park Fountain is another place for families to cool off on hot summer days. The fountain is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. from May through October.
