Man arrested for poisoning neighbor’s dogs

One of the dogs had already eaten some poisoned food and was rushed to a veterinarian. It is unclear if the dog will make a full recovery.

Earlier this month, the Washington County Sherrif’s Office responded to a home located in the Bethany neighborhood of North Beaverton after receiving a report from a husband and wife that their neighbor might be trying to poison their 2 small dogs.

After speaking to the couple’s neighbor, deputies determined that the neighbor, Erik Mighells, was in fact responsible for the poisoning.

The first time Mighells tried to poison the dogs was on August 2nd, the day before the authorities were contacted. One of the dogs had already eaten some poisoned food and was rushed to a veterinarian. It is unclear if the dog will make a full recovery.

According to officials, Mighells had cooked hamburger meat that contained rat poison inside of it and thrown it over the fence and into the couples backyard on at least 3 separate occasions.

Mighells is in custody and has been charged with animal abuse in the 1st degree.
