On Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 4:16p.m., Central Precinct Officers responded to the area of SW 15th Ave / SW Yamhill St on a report of a person in crisis threatening to jump from a rooftop. Officers with Enhanced Crisis Intervention Team (ECIT) training negotiated with the person on the rooftop for approximately 50 minutes. The officers ultimately found a window of opportunity and coordinated a plan to safely take the person into custody. The person was transported to an area hospital for a mental health evaluation.
Traffic was significantly impacted in the area during the incident. Officers shut down the intersection of SW 15th Ave / SW Yamhill St until the situation was resolved. TriMet was also impacted. The intersection has now reopened. The Portland Police Bureau is grateful for the patience of the community members who were inconvenienced by this incident.
