On December 17th, 2023, at 10:20 AM, Hillsboro police officers were dispatched to the 7900 Block of NE Miriam Way in Hillsboro on the report of a restraining order violation. The caller indicated there was a male inside an apartment at the location with a female who had a court-ordered restraining order against him. 

Upon arrival, Hillsboro police officers confirmed the involved male violated the restraining order. During the investigation, the male made statements he was armed and took the female hostage. Two Hillsboro police officers discharged their service weapons, killing the male. As is the case with all law enforcement shootings, the two involved Hillsboro police officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.

This is an open investigation. In the interest of ensuring the integrity of the investigation and respecting the privacy of those involved, further details will be released as the investigation progresses.

The Washington County Major Crimes team is investigating this incident. The Major Crimes Team (MCT) consists of deputy district attorneys and detectives from various police departments, including the Beaverton, Forest Grove, Hillsboro, Sherwood, Tigard, Tualatin, and Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
