The Tigard Police Department investigated a reported shooting threat at Tigard High School and followed up today in hopes of contacting those involved to determine the credibility of the threat.

Investigators learned there was a fight between students on Thursday, February 16th at Tigard High School. They identified those involved in the fight and spoke with those involved today. Later in the evening, there was a report that some of those students and an adult in a car encountered each other at a gas station and verbal threats were made at that time. The police department was not called by anyone involved in that reported incident.

Just before 8 PM Thursday, the Tigard Police Department was notified that an anonymous report was made through Safe Oregon that said, “I heard there was going to be a school shooting tomorrow.”

Based on Tigard Police Department and TTSD school resource officers’ investigation, the threat of violence is not credible. While an issue existed between specific students, there is no verified threat of violence to the school community.

The Tigard Tualatin School District said the reason the school was closed was out of an abundance of caution due to the late timing of the Safe Oregon report, and the need to allow time for law enforcement partners to gather information and determine the credibility of the threat.
