On December 21, 2022, at 10:52 a.m., Central Precinct officers were dispatched to the intersection of Southeast 9th Avenue and Southeast Market Street on reports that a shooting had occurred. Officers located an injured man and immediately began rendering emergency medical aid. This included applying a chest seal. The injured individual was transported to a local hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
On December 22, 2022, just after 3:00 a.m., 38-year-old Kailen R. Guffey was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center. He was initially detained by members of Central Precinct shortly after the shooting in the Hosford-Abernethy Neighborhood. The Homicide Unit conducted an intensive investigation that ultimately resulted in Guffey being charged with Murder in the Second Degree (With a Firearm), Robbery in the First Degree (With a Firearm), Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Use of Weapon.
The victim in this homicide is 57-year-old Abed Fattoum. The Medical Examiner’s Office determined manner and cause of death to be homicide by gunshot wound. Fattoum’s family has been notified of his death and asked that the attached photograph be used for public release. Family members are requesting privacy at this time.
