On November 30, 2022, William Wesley Gilchrist, age 40, pleaded guilty to Unlawful Sexual Penetration in the First Degree and two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon. The convictions involve three victims who are all strangers to the defendant.  The case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy DA Allison Brown.

Gilchrist was sentenced by Judge Kathleen Proctor to 100 months prison pursuant to Ballot Measure 11.  He will be required to register as a sex offender and serve a term of post-prison supervision following his release from prison.

Just after midnight on June 25, 2022, a 31-year-old woman was riding the MAX train in Beaverton. Mr. Gilchrist, who was also on the train, followed her as she got off at the Beaverton Creek station. He attacked her from behind on the train platform and forcibly sexually assaulted her. Two good Samaritan men came to the victim’s rescue and pulled Gilchrist off of her. Gilchrist then threatened both of the men with a knife before running off into the woods near the Nike campus. Beaverton Police responded quickly and arrested the defendant. He was under the influence of methamphetamine.  The assault was caught on surveillance from TriMet’s cameras.

The Washington County DA’s Office would like to acknowledge the bravery of all the victims in this case, as well as the investigative work by the Beaverton Police Department and assistance of the Oregon State Police Forensic Lab.
